Holistic Dentistry

Your Mouth is the Mirror to Your Body.

What is Holistic Dentistry? Holistic (or Biological) Dentistry looks beyond the tooth to treat the whole person. We understand that your oral health is intimately connected to your immune system, heart health, and overall vitality. At Calm Dental, we use materials and procedures that are compatible with your body's natural biology, promoting biocompatibility and reducing inflammation.

Our Core Pillars

1. Biocompatible Materials We are a primarily metal-free practice. We avoid traditional mercury amalgams and base metals which may cause sensitivity or systemic reactions for sensitive patients. The only metal we use, if required, is safe and biocompatible titanium. We offer:

  • High-Strength Ceramics (Zirconia & Lithium Disilicate): For fillings, crowns and bridges that are durable, aesthetic, and biologically neutral.

  • BPA-Free Composites: For safe, natural-looking fillings. At our practice, we have a two-tier approach regarding composite resin for restorations. First, we use BPA-free and BIS-GMA free restorative materials from GC, which is strong and handles well. Secondly, for our patients who are more sensitive to classic resin monomers, we also use Admira Fusion which is ORMOCER (Ceramic based). It has no Bis-GMA, no TEGDMA, no HEMA, and no BPA.

  • Ceramic Implants: A metal-free alternative to titanium for replacing missing teeth, as an additional option to the regular titanium implants.

2. Safe Mercury Removal : Removing old silver (amalgam) fillings releases mercury vapor, which can be harmful if not managed correctly. We adhere to Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal protocols. This includes robust isolation, air vacuum suction, and protective gear to ensure that you—and our team—are never exposed to toxins during the removal process.

3. Minimally Invasive Technology Preserving your natural tooth structure is our top priority. We utilise technology to detect issues, intervene early and gently:

  • CAD-CAM minimally invasive technology: For biomimetic inlays and onlays in ceramic that preserve maximum tooth structure while still reinforcing the tooth.

  • Digital Scanners: No more goopy impression trays. We use the Invisalign Lumina and intraoral scanners for instant, comfortable 3D modeling. We also utlise Near Infra-red Imaging (NIRI) technology for early diagnosis of tooth decay.

  • 3D Low-Dose Imaging: Our CBCT technology allows us to diagnose issues with precision, preventing unnecessary treatments.

4. The Stress-Free Connection Stress impacts your immune system and healing capability. By aiming to provide a calm and comfortable dental experience, we support your body’s natural healing processes. Our serene environment is not just a luxury—it is a clinical tool for better health outcomes.

FILLINGS

When natural tooth structure is lost due to cavities, trauma or wear and tear, a dental restoration or filling can be placed to restore the tooth’s function, aesthetics and integrity. With the advancement of modern sciences, we now have choices of different materials to restore our teeth with.

Some of these materials include, composite resin and ceramics/porcelain.

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

Root canal treatment is needed when the bacteria that causes decay invades the pulp of the tooth. This leads to infection within the root canal system within the tooth. A simple filling does not suffice and a more thorough cleaning of the internal parts of the tooth is needed. Depending on each situation, this is completed over 1 or 2 visits during which your dentist would essentially "clean, shape & fill" the internal chambers of your tooth & root.
